Although the New Covenant does not impose the tithe as a law, the principle of returning a part of our resources to God remains. Jesus mentioned the tithe without revoking it (Matthew 23:23), and the apostle Paul taught about systematic generosity (1 Corinthians 16:2). The tithe is a biblical starting point, but Christian generosity should go beyond, according to each one's possibilities.

When returning the tithe, consider the net value — that which actually reaches your hands, whether you are self-employed or salaried. Thus you set apart for God only on what you actually received and can manage, remaining faithful to the biblical principles of firstfruits (Proverbs 3:9) and of returning according to prosperity (1 Corinthians 16:2), always with a heart willing to honour the Lord.

Jesus taught that we must seek first the Kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto us (Matthew 6:33). If you are in debt, it is important to honour God with your tithes and offerings, trusting that He will provide. At the same time, it is wise to seek financial guidance and develop a plan to get out of debt. Many testify that, when faithful in tithes even in difficult situations, they experienced the supernatural action of God in their finances.

Malachi 3:10 instructs to bring the tithes to the "storehouse", which in practice was the temple, the place for the support of the Levites and the sacred service. The tithe has the specific purpose of sustaining God's work through the local church. However, voluntary offerings can and should be directed to social and missionary works, according to God's direction for each person. What is important is that both the tithe and the offerings are given with joy and purpose (2 Corinthians 9:7).
